Ritual of Calm

This ritual involves steps that require time. Please set aside around 5 minutes of quiet to perform this ritual.
Supplies
  • 3 candles
    • 1 green (life, hope, anticipation)
    • 1 white (purity, light, glory, joy)
    • 1 red (God's love)
  • Enough gold-colored cord/yarn to create a triangle large enough for you to stand in.
  • A tub/storage bin/tray large enough to stand in.
  • Warm water; enough to cover your feet
Steps
  1. Set the container for water on the floor. Do not fill it yet.
  2. Arrange the candles so that they form a triangle around the container.
  3. Wind the gold cord around the outsides of the candles to “draw” the lines between the candles and finish the triangle.
  4. Pour the warm water into the container.
  5. Barefoot, step into the water.
  6. Face the red candle.
  7. Close your eyes and stand loosely; you may keep your hands at your sides or folded in prayer, whichever is most comfortable.
  8. Contemplate the physical - think about using your muscles to stand, how the warm water feels and how it feels as it cools. Consider how your clothes feel on your skin and the scent of the candles.
  9. Contemplate the mental - think about what it is you are stressed or frenzied about. Contemplate if the strength of your emotions about this thing is correct. Are you too mad about an argument with your partner? Are you stressed because you’re engaging in people pleasing or are you doing the opposite and being defiant for the sake of being defiant?
  10. Contemplate the spiritual - do NOT ask God or Jesus to solve these problems for you. You were given the ability to do this on your own (free will). Think of your spirit as muscles, and you can only get stronger muscles by working out, your spirit is the same. Consider why you feel you can’t fix your problems while concentrating on the aspects you can control.
  11. Choose one aspect that you can control, then pray for the ability to control that aspect in a kind, calm, productive matter.
  12. Pray once in silence and then say this same prayer once out loud.
  13. Thank God and/or Jesus for the opportunity to improve yourself.
  14. Dismantle your set up and put everything away.
