Kindness and Democracy

We pay taxes in this house, so I think it is safe for me to gripe about politics for a little bit. If we believe in kindness for kindness’s sake, then we absolutely have to vote for the Democratic candidate. The modern Republican party represents a type of Evangelical that rarely goes to church. They say that they are Christian, yet they care only for their own and even that is debatable, if the infighting within the party is any indication.
I am aware that Mr. Biden isn’t an exciting candidate, but he has actually done quite a lot for the American people. Our employment rate is extraordinarily low, at 3.5% at the time of writing. If you’ve noticed a lot of road construction in your area, that’s likely being done with money from the bipartisan infrastructure law he got passed. Veterans exposed to burn pits are finally, finally getting the help they need for the illnesses they were afflicted with in the process of serving our country. He has managed to act on gun control by passing the Safer Communities Act. This act closed the so-called “boyfriend loophole”, which keeps convicted abusers from owning guns.
Our memories are short. We lost so many norms and rights during the Trump Presidency that it is bewildering to think about. 2.9 million jobs were lost, leaving the unemployment rate at 6.3%, nearly twice Biden’s rate. Though he swore to correct the international trade deficit, it instead ballooned by 40.5%. 3 million people lost health insurance. Roe v. Wade almost doesn’t need to be brought up.
Trump embodies 2 Timothy 3:1-9. “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people…”
Since you’re reading this, I can only assume that you’ve been on the Internet recently. Do I think this is the end times? No, not really, at least not in a Rapture sort of way. I can, however, see the sense of childlike safety the Western world has enjoyed since the end of the Cold War being permanently shattered. And it will be our own fault.
Proverbs 16:5 tells us “Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.” We have grown selfish and callous and we may be reaping the final reward this year.
Please, go vote. Get your friends to vote. If you can’t take time off or get to your local polling place, let me know and I’ll try to work something out. How we live our lives may literally depend on it.
Very sincerely,
Lady Sun
